Milliaire
is located in the historic gold rush town of
Murphy's, in Calaveras County. Traditional
techniques are used to produce limited bottlings of
wines selected from foothill vineyards, of which
the two most notable are Ghirardelli Vineyard in
Calaveras County, and Amador's Clockspring
Vineyard.
The winery is
owned by Liz and Steve Millier. Steve's first job
(after graduating from the enology &
viticulture program at Fresno State University) was
as Winemaker for David Bruce Winery in the Santa
Cruz Mountains. The Milliers came to Calaveras
County where Steve was Winemaker at Stevenot Winery
(and several others at the same time), and the
couple founded Milliaire in 1983. In 1990, the
winery moved into a former gas station on Main
Street in Murphys.
Annual production
is around 2,500 cases.
Winery Location: 276 Main Street, Murphys
