This
small, family-owned and operated winery sits on a
high hill near Placerville, with a wonderful view
of the Sierra Nevada. Thus the name. John
MacCready, the owner and winemaker, started a farm
here in 1972 and grew grapes. The winery became a
reality in 1977. He worked as a professor of
engineering at california State University
Sacramento while the vineyards were expanded and
the wines developed.
The
winery has specialized in producing Rhone
varietals, including Syrah, Viognier, Grenache,
Mourvedre, and Cinsault. McCready also makes the
California classics: Fume Blanc, Zinfandel,
Cabernet Sauvignonand Merlot.
